RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Are you passionate about having an impact on the future of medicine? If so, then we want to talk to you. Olaris is hiring a high-performing, motivated individual(s) for a Research Associate position.

 

The Position 

The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of activities including metabolite extraction from patient biofluids, NMR and MS sample preparation and analysis, sample organization and handling. You will be responsible for maintaining a proper lab notebook. You will be expected to maintain a clean lab space and follow all safety guidelines. This position includes the opportunity to learn advanced NMR and MS techniques.

  

This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or MS Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field

  • Wet-lab techniques of handling biological samples including human biofluids or natural products

  • Ability to follow and execute SOPs

  • Ability to multi-task, communicate effectively, work well in a team and learn quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Metabolomics knowledge

  • Experience working with NMR and MS

  • Experience presenting a poster or giving a talk at a conference

  • Completion of a thesis project

  • Completion of a rigorous science degree with strong academic references

NMR TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

Are you an expert in analytical chemistry and method development? Does harnessing the potential of metabolomics to transform disease diagnosis and treatment intrigue you? If so, we want to meet you.  

 

The Position 

We are looking to hire an NMR Technical Development Scientist.  The successful candidate will lead NMR method development for complex mixture analysis and small molecule identification and quantification. Additionally, they will be capable of applying advanced multi-dimensional NMR methods such as non-uniform sampling techniques and writing custom pulse sequences.   

 

 This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate highly sensitive and reproducible NMR methods for the rapid and accurate quantification of metabolites from biological samples

  • Create customized NMR parameter sets and pulse sequences

  • Provide SME knowledge in the area of quantitative and semi-quantitative NMR

  • Design and execute experiments in support of method development and optimization

  • Analyze, interpret, and present study results and conclusions in project meetings

  • Contribute innovative approaches to pushing the limits of our analyses

  • Propose actionable connections between results of metabolomic analyses and biological pathways

  • Publish and present findings to external audiences

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the theory of operation, maintenance, trouble-shooting and effective repair for Bruker magnets and software

  • Provide training and guidance to fellow research scientists

  • Develop research documentation, such as standard operating procedures, protocols, technical reports, summaries, and presentations

  • Perform extensive literature searches and prepare method reports

  • Conduct highly complex work that is important to the organization's success and contributes to progress in the scientific community

  

Qualifications

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of experience of advanced knowledge of NMR methods and instrumentation

  • Direct experience with NUS 1H-13C HSQC experiments

  • Highly skilled with NMRPipe and related software

  • Expertise in optimizing NMR parameters, writing or modifying pulse sequences and analyzing NMR data is required

  • Demonstrated excellence leading successful projects to completion

  • Strong written and verbal communication; an ability to communicate technical material to non-technical audiences simply and clearly and collaborate well on a team

  • Intense drive for problem solving, especially around analyzing and identifying key molecules in multi-component samples

  • Knowledgeable in the isolation of small molecules from biological fluids

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in NMR Method Development and validation

  • Experience with various instrumentation data analysis software packages

  • Experience as a team leader

  • Knowledgeable about clinical laboratory regulations and expectations

  • A history of scientific publications in the field of analytical chemistry/metabolomics

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

The Position

Olaris is looking for an individual to join a team responsible for the start-to-finish work on the analysis and interpretation of Olaris' metabolomics platform. This candidate will be responsible for the full-stack implementation of Olaris data analytics pipelines, as well as support the refactoring of currently deployed pipelines.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Back/Front-end developer for ETL, RPA, data analytics, and visualization processes  

  • Refactoring of existing codes aiming accessibility, simplification, runtime optimization and automation

  • Implement backend databases to support data management and access

  • Define and implement DevOps best practices

  • Continuously evaluate and, when applicable, deploy novel technologies

  • Develop API-based solutions to allow a seamlessly integration with external tools and repositories

  • Clearly communicate highly technical deliverables and technologies to non-technical audiences

 


Qualifications

  • Computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related field with 3+ years of experience, or MS in related field with 1+ years of experience.

  • Demonstrated excellence in working with programming language R

  • Experiencing in creating and managing R-libraries is a plus.

  • Experience with Data Science front-end technologies

  • Working familiarity with Python

  • Proficiency in working in a UNIX environment

  • Proven ability to independently develop a full stack data analytics project

  • Hands-on experience in relational/non-relational databases

  • Working experience with Azure is a plus

  • Ability to efficiently work in multiple projects

  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborating with a team

METABOLITE SCIENTIST

The Position 

Olaris is looking for high-performing and outgoing metabolite scientists to join our Biomarker Discovery team.

 

This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples from a variety of materials for metabolomics research

  • Run custom NMR and MS experiments

  • Develop novel NMR and MS methodologies to integrate into our platform

  • Perform data analysis

  • Work closely with the data science team on data mining and biomarker discovery

  • Conduct highly complex work that is important to the organization's success and contributes to progress in the scientific community

  • Maintain a proper lab notebook

  • Publish and present our work at conferences

  

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Biological Sciences, Chemical Biology, Biophysics, or related field

  • 2-5 years related NMR experience required, additional MS knowledge ideal

  • Experience with cancer metabolism and/or immune metabolism

  • Familiar with various omics technologies (transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics and metabolomics)

  • Knowledge of NMR theory, pulse programs and data analysis including 1D, 2D and 3D experiments

  • Familiarity with statistics and bioinformatics tools in metabolomics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rational experimental design for metabolite characterization and structural elucidation  

  • Wet-lab techniques of handling biological samples including human biofluids, natural product, and bacterial cultures

  • Hands-on with NMRPipe, Chenomix, MNova and processing NUS data
